Our Peer Mediation program trains students in 5th and 6th grades to take disputants through the steps of problem solving, allowing them to tell their stories, their feelings and then search for solutions to the problem. Along the way they learn good communication and listening skills that can be used their whole life through. The mediators rotate on a weekly basis in helping the younger students resolve conflicts on the playground or in the classroom.
In September we will invite the interested 5th grade students to apply and interview for peer mediator positions. After successful completion of the application, interviewing and training in October/November, the new 5th grade peer mediators will be ready to assist us in resolving conflicts among their peers.
