Cultural Services Program, Liaisons and Resources
More than 31% of Roseville Area Schools students come from ethnically diverse backgrounds. Cultural barriers can be bridged by the use of Cultural Liaison Program funded through our Equity and Integration Office
How Can a Cultural Liaison Help Me?
They will:
- Help families understand the American School systems and fill out school paperwork: School Registration, Immunizations, Free & Reduced Lunch forms, Transportation, Scholarships, etc.
- Interpret for Home-School communications between staff and parents.
- Interpret for Early Childhood Screenings, Special Ed Assessments, Parent meetings, etc.
- Encourage bilingual families to participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences and attend to provide interpretation for the conference.
- Make phone calls and home visits with staff on re-occurring academic risk issues.
- Be a resource to school staff about working with students and families from other cultures.
- Create long-term relationships with the families to help guide their children's academic success and ultimately to a high school diploma!
We are fortunate to receive funding from EMID and the Suburban Ramsey Collaborative for our cultural liaisons. Bilingual Liaisons serve as on-staff interpreters for the Hmong, Spanish, and Karen speaking families in our school district. They are able to build long-term relationships with our culturally diverse families resulting in more parent involvement and student success. The Liaisons work from the Fairview Community Center and can be accessed by school staff or parents at any time for ACADEMIC ISSUES. See how bilingual liaisons can help (PDF).

Minnesota Humanities Center
- Bilingual Initiatives: The Minnesota Humanities Center’s bilingual and heritage language work has focused on preserving heritage languages while improving early literacy development, specifically among families. The current work in bilingual and heritage languages focuses on language and literacy programs for educators who work with Dakota and Ojibwe speakers, though past work has focused on Hmong and Somali speakers.
