RAHS National Merit Scholar Semifinalists
Roseville Area High School is proud to recognize our eight National Merit Semifinalists for 2009-10. Theresa Chresand, Karen Fiegen, Alexander Galindo, Carson Koepke, Nicole Lee, Emma Lucken, Jung Eun Seong, and Zachary Stout have the opportunity to continue in the competition for about 8,000 National Merit awards, worth $32 million, that will be offered next spring. Semifinalists are the highest scoring entrants in each state and represent less than 1% of the state’s seniors.
RAHS National Merit Commended Students
Elizabeth Baxter, James Brisbois, Elizabeth Campbell, Lindsey Forsberg, Rousi Ma, Alyssa Miller, Seth Miller, Richa Sharma, Meera Sury, and Linnea White have been named Commended Students in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended students placed among the top five percent of more than one million students who entered the 2010 competition by taking the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
RAHS Outstanding Participant in the
National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP)
Alexander Galindo received Honorable Mention in the 2009-10 National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP). The College Board's NHRP was initiated in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic high school students. In order to be eligible, students must be at least one-quarter Hispanic. This year the NHRP identified approximately 5,000 of the highest scoring students from a nationwide total of 200,000 high school juniors who took the PSAT/NMSQT and designated themselves as Hispanic. This is the same organization who recognizes National Merit Semi-finalists and Commended Students.
RAHS Outstanding Participant in the
National Achievement Program
Esther Joy Mungai has been recognized as an Outstanding Participant in the National Achievement Program. She is among 3,100 Outstanding Participants in the National Achievement Scholarship Program being referred to U.S. colleges and universities. These students scored in the top 4% of more than 150,000 Black Americans who requested consideration in the 2010 National Achievement Program when they took the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
The National Achievement Scholarship Program was initiated in 1964 specifically to honor academically promising Black American high school students. This is the same organization who recognizes National Merit Semi-finalists and Commended Students.
AP Scholar Awards
One hundred and sixteen students from Roseville Area High School have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level AP Exams.
Students took AP Exams in May 2009 after completing challenging college-level courses at their high school. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on the number of year-long courses and exams. Exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5.
Four students qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a five point scale on all AP exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. These students are: Nicholas Allen, Nicole Lee, Meera Sury and Kevin Wagner.
Twenty seven students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are: Nicholas Allen, Edithstein Cho, Lindsey Forsberg, Seth Frick, Ryan Weldon, Stephanie Hoffman, Conor Holt, Kathryn Howard, Claire Hughes, Karis Hustad, Daniel Kassen, Nicole Lee, Trenton Lill, Joseph Mein, Chandini Nair, Julia Olson, Erik Porter, Jeffrey Sayler, Jung Eun Seong, Mitchell Sherman, Christopher Shivers, Daniel Shivers, Carolyn Spadine, Zachary Stout, Meera Sury, Kevin Wagner and Kenneth Wottrich.
Twenty nine students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. These students are: Elizabeth Baxter, James Brisbois, Justine Buerkle, Joshua Chamberland, Eric Chu, Zachary Duncan, Mitchell Erickson, Alexander Galindo, John Guckin, Abigail Hanson, William Hanson, Alex Holmberg, Patrick Hughes, Merrick Johnson, Britt Logan, Zoe Lokich, Emma Lucken, Ruosi Ma, Marissa Mittet, Joseph Mueller, Eric Ohman, Natalia Petkovich, Myranda Prentiss, Delorianne Sander, Garrett Schaefer, Martin Spassov, Shengshee Thor, Brandon Tice and Teresa Tierney.
Fifty six students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Examinations, with grades of 3 or higher.
