"The purpose of staff development is not just to implement isolated instructional innovations; its central purpose is to build strong collaborative work cultures that will develop long-term capacity for change."
- Fullan, 1991

Professional development is the means by which educators acquire or enhance the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and beliefs necessary to create high levels for all students. "Thinking about our work and improving what we do - these things are professional development - so is collegiality - teachers talking about their practice and how to make it better." - Anthony Alvarado

Roseville Area Schools is committed to staff development that is standards-based, results-driven and job-embedded. We believe that ongoing improvement plays an essential role in student learning and that it is what teachers do that will determine the quality of the work the kids do. The main goals of professional development are:

  • all students and staff learning and perform at high levels
  • consistent application of research-based best practices
  • continuous improvement and life-long learning
