Edgerton Elementary (ISD #623) is a recipient of the 2006-2007 MESPA Minnesota School of Excellence Award. MESPA, the Minnesota Elementary School Prinicpals' Association, is the grassroots association representing Minnesota's elementary and middle level principals.
MESPA developed the research-based Minnesota School of Excellence program aligned with national standards, and annually validates elementary and middle level communities whose principal, staff, students, and community -- working as a team -- demonstrate the desire to strengthen education by successfully completing the program.
The Minnesota School of Excellence program offers a powerful comprehensive school improvement process to increase student achievement. The program was established in 1986 and is recognized by the Minnesota Department of Education. It combines the findings of current research on effective schooling with the practical on-site experience of working principals and education staff. This school improvement process involves a systematic program of self-study, development of a school improvement plan based on demonstrated results, and implementation of the plan.
John Ahern, principal of Edgerton Elementary School, was the 2005 Minnesota National Distinguished Principal, a recognition and honor of exemplary principals from the National Association of Elementary School Principals. He was nominated and selected by his peers through a statewide search process following criteria set by NAESP and the U.S. Department of Education. Guided by the Edgerton School vision, "Keeping Children First," Ahern's learning community achieves excellent academic results and since 1995, Edgerton has had the highest rating for overall satisfaction in the Roseville school district from parents, staff, and students.
"It Starts With Me".... is the motto at Edgerton Elementary. This motto guides those at Edgerton to be responsible and committed to improvement, both personal and professional This allows for growth in student achievement and self-worth.
