We are proud at RAMS to have the AVID program as part of our school's philosophy as well as have 3 sections of the AVID class. AVID Center Recognizes Roseville Area Middle School as an AVID National Certified School. AVID has been at RAMS since 2008.
AVID: Advancement Via Individual Determination is a college preparatory program.
The AVID classes (two 7th grade sections and one 8th grade section) meet every day - all year. In this class students benefit by learning collaboratively, use critical thinking, have trained AVID college tutors come 2 times a week to run inquiry based groups, take field trips to colleges, take Cornell style notes in all classes, and need to maintain a 3.2 GPA once they are selected to be in the class. The AVID class is supportive yet has high expectations to prepare these students for college. Most of the RAMS teachers have been AVID trained and use AVID strategies within their classroom so the strategies and philosophy is used throughout so it benefits all RAMS students.
In order for students to be considered for the AVID program they must meet one or more of the criteria: 1st generation to attend college, ethnicity not typically seen in 4 year colleges, free or reduced lunch program and special circumstances such as (single parent home, foster care, lives with grandparents,English not primary language spoken at home.
The AVID applications for the 2013-2014 school year closed on Jan. 30. Interviews and selection for the program are currently taking place.
Please contact the AVID Coordinator at RAMS - Tana Bogenholm tana.bogenholm@isd623.org 651-482-5280 ext 238 and 8th graders looking to be in the AVID program at RAHS for next year can contact Greg Ueland gregory.ueland@isd623.isd.
