Special Education Child Find, Referral, and Evaluation Process

Child Find
Child Find is a continuous process of public awareness activities, screening, and evaluation designed to locate, identify, and refer as early as possible, all young children with disabilities and their families who are in need of special education services.

Pre-Referral Interventions
Prior to a referral for special education services, pre-referral interventions are implemented to target a student's specific academic, behavioral, social-emotional, communication or functional needs. This team will include interventionists, support staff, parents, and students (if appropriate). Pre-referral interventions are not required or recommended for early childhood aged children, to avoid delay in early intervention. 

Evaluation Planning
When interventions are unsuccessful, a student will be referred for a special education evaluation. The Special Education Team will meet with relevant team members including the parent to plan a comprehensive evaluation.

Evaluation
With written parental consent, the school will have 45 calendar days (Part C) and 30 school days (Part B) to complete the procedures outlined in the evaluation to determine if your child meets initial eligibility criteria under one or more disability categories and is in need of special education and related services. Student's are reevaluated every three years.

Individual Family Services Plan/ Individual Education Plan
If your student is found eligible for special education services, the IFSP/IEP team uses the special education needs identified in the evaluation to develop an Individual Family Service Plan or Individual Education Plan.

Informed Consent
Parents/guardians must provide their consent in writing for the initial provision of special education services. The IFSP/IEP will only be implemented with written consent.

Progress Monitoring
The Roseville Area Schools' services providers will collect ongoing data regarding your student’s progress on their IEP goals and objectives. Written progress reports will be provided throughout the school year as outlined in the IFSP/IEP. 

IFSP/ IEP Meetings
Every six months, the IFSP team will review your child's progress and update your child's IFSP. The IEP team will meet annually to review your students’s progress on goals and objectives and will review and update the IEP.
