I wanted to take this opportunity to make you aware of a Netflix original show titled, “13 Reasons Why” that is getting a lot of attention in the media and among some Roseville students in the past few days. While the show is intended to be a cautionary tale about the tragic suicide of a student, the mature content (including self-harm/cutting, suicide, rape, and drug and alcohol use by underage students) may be difficult and confusing for students.
Please talk with your child about this show. If your child has watched it, I urge you to discuss the content with your child. If your child has not watched it and would like to, I encourage you to preview the show to determine if you find it suitable for your child.
This show and the surrounding conversation is a reminder about the powerful influence social media can have on our children’s lives. Please monitor your child’s social media use including sites they are accessing and ensure they are not sharing personal information with anyone.
Our children are looking to us for guidance and accurate information as they navigate difficult and emotional topics. We are here to partner with you in helping your child talk honestly and openly about these important topics. Please contact me if you have questions or concerns.
