Roseville Area Schools Presents Karen Culture Show
Little Canada, MN – Roseville Area Schools' Karen community will present a Karen Culture Show, taking place at Roseville Area Middle School this Saturday, February 15, 2020, from 1 – 3 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature local Karen artisans performing music, dance and demonstrating Karen backstrap weaving.
Roseville Area Schools is proud to bring the Karen Culture Show to the area for the first time with generous grant support from the Roseville Area Schools Foundation. The Karen Culture Show provides an opportunity for the Karen to celebrate their culture and history while sharing it with the larger community. This is an important opportunity to celebrate together and the focus is to deepen understanding and appreciation of the area’s large Karen population. Attendees will experience the beauty of Karen dance, music and weaving and have an opportunity to taste a Karen snack called, “mea to pi.”
"The Karen are excited for this opportunity to share their voice about who they are and the strengths they bring to this community," said Hsar Htoo, the school district's Karen cultural liaison. "They see this as an opportunity to begin deeper conversations about partnerships and inclusion.”
