District Twice Exceptional (2e) Parent Support Group

District 2e (Twice Exceptional) Parent Support Group

Some students with learning or attention issues have outstanding skills in academic areas and are called “twice exceptional” or 2e. This means that they are exceptional in two ways. These students are sometimes not identified as needing gifted education and/or special education services, or they perhaps are misdiagnosed because their extreme strengths and difficulties can cancel each other and look average.  2e students often require academic challenges with support in areas of need.  Parenting 2e children is rewarding and can sometimes be perplexing as 2e children’s needs are “doubly unique” and sometimes misunderstood by children and adults.

Roseville Area Schools Gifted and Talented Education hosts a 2e Parent Support Group. The purpose of the group is to:

  • Establish an environment where parents of twice-exceptional children can interact with and learn from one another
  • Increase awareness that twice-exceptional children and their families have unique academic and social-emotional needs
  • Discuss parenting and advocacy skills unique to talented twice-exceptional children
  • Share resources to enhance the understanding of characteristics, opportunities, and resources of and for twice exceptional children and families

Your child does NOT have to be identified as gifted or qualify for special education services for you to join this group.  The 2e parent support group will meet virtually this school year during the following dates and times. If you would like to be included on the monthly emails for this group, contact Trina Hira at trina.hira@isd623.org or leave a message at 651-604-3749.
